7 Solutions to Fix Microsoft Word Has Stopped Working Error:

Method to fix this Error Message:

Method 1: Repair Office 2016/2013/2010/2007:

To repair Office, first go to Start button then go to Control Panel. After this, click on Programs and Features option. Now click on the Microsoft Office and after this click on Change option. Press on Repair button and now click on Continue. Here you will see the Quick Repair and Online Repair for the new version of Office. Let finish the process of Repair, and then restart your computer system. Now check whether the error is fixed or not, if not then follow the next method.

Method 2: Disable all Add-ins:

Sometimes Add-in automatically get installed by another program, which results in Word to crash. If this happens, you can start Word in safe mode which will not install any add-ins. For this, click on Start and then Run when using Window 7 and type the following command:

Winword.exe/a

But if you are on Window 10, then press Window key +R. After this click on the Office button and now click on Word option. For the new version of Office, click on File and then on Option. Now click on Add-ins button and after this disable all Add-ins and install word again.

Method 3: Install Latest Updates:

If previous method did not work then install the latest updates for the version of Office. If you are using Window 7 then from the Control Panel, go to automatic Updates and find the latest updates.

Method 4: Delete the Word Data Registry Key:

There is a key in the Registry which stores the options in Word. Delete that key, Word will rebuild next time when you start Word by default setting.

Now you can delete the Word Data key:

Word 2002: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft \Office\10.0\Word\Data

Word 2003: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\ Office\11.0\Word\Data

Word 2007: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\ Office\12.0\Word\Data

Word 2010: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\14.0\Word\Data

Word 2013: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\15.0\Word

Word 2016: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\16.0\Word

Right click on the data key, and choose the option of delete. Restart Word and see whether the error is gone.

Method 5: Remove Older Printer Driver:

If you had the older printer driver installed on your Window machine, then remove it, the Word will started working.

Method 6: Uninstall Recent Software:

If you have install any of the software or plug-in on your computer system, then uninstall it. This may be the reason for “Microsoft Word is not working”.

Method 7: Completely Uninstall and Reinstall Office:

If nothing has worked then uninstall the software, and then reinstall the Office again, this will definitely fix the error.
